The Tale of Despereaux

Animated movies about animals have been very popular, not only among children, but some of the adults as well. In the late 70's and 80's, we saw such movies as "The Rescuers" which had mice as heroes.

One of the recent popular films about mice, "The Tale of Despereaux," was a big hit when released in 2008. Despereaux, our protagonist, was born with two big ears, too big for his tiny little world. Despereaux the mouse makes friends with Princess Pea who inspires him to read stories about knights and dragons. Our tiny mouse gets expelled from the mouse world for being too much of a man and not enough mouse. Despereaux is then rescued by Roscuro and the two became friends.

The outcast rat, Roscuro, who also wanted to listen to those tales of bravery with Despereaux, was later dismissed by the princess. This makes Roscuro become very angry, and together with his other friend, Mig, they plot to kidnap Princess Pea. The story goes on about the rescue of Princess Pea by Despereaux.

The Tale of Despereaux is a story that uses a mouse and rat as leading roles just as one of those children movies of the 70's. Nonetheless, some adults have enjoyed this animated film as well. The story bounces back and forth between the filthy "rat world" and a neat "mouse world", so it is an easy to follow story. "The Tale of Despereaux" runs 100 minutes and is considered a entertaining story. This film gets released on DVD on April 7th, 2009.
