Marley and Me

Many people love the book turned film “Marley and Me.” What a great story about a family pet that was adopted from a shelter. Even with the unruly and uncontrollable Marley, this is a movie that should be seen by everyone. Even though it is a family movie, there are certain parts parents may need to explain to young children.

Most families have gone through some of the same experiences and would do it all again. Those experiences include the delight of training or attempting to train a strong-willed dog. What makes Marley so adorable and precious is that he has the personality of an angel and the appetite of a piranha. There are many things that save this amazing animal from total alienation from his human counterparts. One such saving grace is his unbelievable heart-of-gold and amazing personality.

The author could not have made this story up. The narrative reflects a true-life experience with a dog that has an undying devotion toward his human tenders. This story reveals the love and trust between animal and humans. After many years of trying to change the personality of their beloved pet, all involved accept him for who he is and become his biggest supporters. Marley became a family member through and through.

This story can be likened to “Old Yeller” or “Lassie.” The entire story is authentic and genuine. There is no pretense about the love that is shared between all involved in this great movie. It is important that it is now on DVD and can be seen by many more. Everyone who has had a pet or thinking about getting one will enjoy the human impact on Marley and the huge impact Marley has on everyone.
