After it hit theaters in December 2008, the Adam Sandler movie Bedtime Stories will come out on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 7, 2009. It is a fun, family comedy which takes a step back from the usual jokes expected from Adam Sandler. With other familiar names like Courtney Cox, Keri Russell, Russell Brand, and Guy Pearce, the film attracts a wider audience than just children. The idea of Russell Brand and Adam Sandler starring in a PG film with toned-down fart jokes is enough of a reason to pick up the DVD and check it out.
Bedtime Stories enjoyed a considerable success in the United States, drawing a younger crowd than usually permitted. In its opening weekend, it made an estimated $27,450,296 in 3,684 theaters. It stayed on the big screen for 11 weeks before it was pulled on March 12, 2009. It also attracted a pretty large foreign following. Total, it banked about $96,071,293 from foreign theaters making its total earning from both the USA and international showings about $206,173,268. With an $80 million production budget, this is not a bad turn out, and the makers can hope to make more from the DVD release.
Some critics claimed that it could have been much more successful with a little more work. The comedy was a bit out of character for Sandler, and some people had a hard time adjusting. But the story of a middle-aged man witnessing the bedtime stories he tells to his sister's children come true provides for a fun fantasy story that most people can enjoy. The DVD makes a great addition to any Disney collection and is a fun movie to watch with the kids.
