iTunes is both a digital media player and a program manager for iPods and iPhone. It was introduced by Apple Inc. at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco in January, 2001. It uses a proprietary program and interface to connect to the iTunes Store where all kinds of digital media may be downloaded to iPods and iPhones. Users can purchase and download music, music videos, full-length movies, iPod games and ringtones among many other services.
iTunes popularity is due in part to the ease of use. Media can be downloaded with minimum effort and time. iPods small size and portability have made it a must have for most young people and many older people as well. It is a great companion for those who are working at physical fitness activities. The iPod can be loaded with iTunes and then listened to during the physical fitness activity.
A great gift idea for friends and family with an iPod is to get them a gift card to purchase iTunes from the iTunes Store. These gift cards can be found at most grocery stores as well as super stores like Target or Wal-Mart. The cards are loaded by the cashier at the checkout counter. You can then place them in a birthday or graduation card to take care of your gift giving needs.
iTunes has taken over the need for portable tape players. The smaller iPod is much more convenient. The younger generation has taken to it in vast numbers.
It is unusual to see a young person on a bus or waiting in line who is not listening to an iPod playing iTunes.
