iTunes

SoundJam MP was a Mac audio player published by Casady & Greene. In the year 2000, Apple executives purchased the rights to the SoundJam software. The three developers that were then working on the SoundJam audio player all started working on a software system for Apple and iTunes was born. iTunes is a digital media player that is used for playing and organizing video files and digital music. iTunes also can sync to Apple’s iPod digital media player, as well as the iPhone.

Through your Internet connection, iTunes can connect to the iTunes store, where people can purchase and download applications, television shows, iPod games, audio books, music, music videos, ringtones, podcasts, and even feature length films. You can also use this to download applications for the iPod touch and the iPhone. People will also be able to organize their musical playlists into libraries, then edit the file information or record compact discs, and even listen to the numerous Internet radio stations.

There have been several updates made to iTunes over the years, but in the most recent update version, iTunes 8.0, the preferences menu was given a lot of changes. This update removed several options, but also added a few. One such example of this is how the users once had an option to display an arrow beside the song's title, album, artist, and even the songs genre that linked to the iTunes music store. Now, you are not able to remove those arrows unless you directly edit the preference file.
