Katy Perry is a young female singer with a recent 2008 album release titled “One of the Boys.” The album sales have topped the two million mark reaching the platinum Top 10. The single from this album titled “I Kissed a Girl,” gained Katy Perry her first Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” category. This single alone has sold more than 13 million tracks and singles around the world.
Katy Perry’s preliminary musical career leading up to the release of “One of the Boys” began as a young singer of religious music. Katy Hudson grew up in Southern California with an Evangelical family of which both parents were pastors. At age 17, Katy switched her name to Katy Perry and music style to Pop music. Katy worked with several recording labels with little success.
Katy released a digital Extended Play recording with a lead off song entitled “Ur So Gay.” This EP generated some media attention that garnered a comment by none other than Madonna. Her breakthrough album, “One of the Boys” was released June, 2008. The album reached number 9 on the Billboard 200. Certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, the album spawned Katy a headline tour coined the “Hello Katy Tour.”
Three of the album’s songs have done well as single releases. Not only did “I Kissed a Girl” do well, but a second track “Hot N Cold,” released as a single reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both of these singles reached three-time platinum sales.
