Garmin Global Positioning System (GPS) navigators are location devices branded by Garmin Ltd., founded in 1989 by co-innovators Gary Burrell and Dr. Min Kao. The Garmin business philosophy is first to embrace the ideas and knowledge of everyone in the company relative to product design and usability. Literally anyone, from engineers, designers, and product testers to artists, writers, and salespeople, may share their thoughts. Vertical integration describes the launch and to market approach, of which the small company is very proud.
Second, the intent of Garmin navigators is to keep a wide-range of customers in touch with where they need to be anywhere in the world. Third, their navigators’ intent is to relieve customer stress when navigation for travel is necessary. Fourth, the company mindset is to embellish lifestyles by continually finding new ways to assist navigation by air, water, and land.
No matter where and what something is, Garmin intends to locate what humans need to find. So what is a Global Positioning System product, either Garmin's or other GPS navigators, and how does GPS work? The United States launched twenty-four satellites into orbit, creating a satellite-based navigation system for the military to use. Then they gave free public access, which remains in place today.
Twice daily, the GPS satellites orbit Earth, precisely sending signals. Triangulation by GPS receivers determines exact locations. Simplified, transmission time compared to reception time equals a time difference. The receiver then calculates the satellite’s distance. Other satellites provide more measurements and the receiver calculates a position displayed on the GPS device. Garmin accomplishes accuracy with parallel multi- channel receivers or the newest WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System).
