To understand this movie, three of the important characters must be introduced. Odette Yustman plays the key role as Casey Beldon, who is having a series of hellish nightmares. Gary Oldman plays a Rabbi who is given the task of removing the demonic possession from Yutsman. Jane Alexander plays the grandmother who will reveal the reason for Yutsman's possession.
The plot of the movie surrounds Yutsman, who is being haunted by a series of nightmares, such as seeing scorpions in eggs, dogs wearing masks, and demon children popping out of strange places. Yustman is also being pursued by the demon called Dybbuk. The story is revealed by Yutsman's grandmother, who is a Holocaust survivor that the Nazis were experimenting on her uncle in Auschwitz that turned him into a demon who is now haunting her. The unborn is a child that the Nazis did not allow to live who wants to be born.
The film was not met with very positive reviews. One critic wrote that it left many of the people leaving the theater after seeing the film, complaining and not screaming. The movie garners any of its shock from blaring noise. Geoff Berkshire, writing for Metromix, said that "The Unborn" is underdeveloped and is more silly than scary. There is just too much loud noise and demonic children appearing out of nowhere to make the movie anything more than just funny. As you can see, the portrayal of Jewish mysticism did not seem to sit well with most critics. If you like scary movies, see for yourself.
