Before shopping for a new television, it is always good to know the differences between all the different types of TVs that are out there. When trying to choose between a plasma or a LCD TV, it is important to know what exactly you would like the television to be capable of doing. Will you be watching a lot of high definition shows or playing a lot of video games?
To best understand the kind of TV you should buy, there are several differences to keep in mind. With a plasma television, you get clean colors and less lag on quickly moving objects. They come in more sizes than LCDs do. The downside to plasma is that you also risk what is know as burn-in, which is caused by a particular imagine being on the screen for too long. They also run hotter than LCDs do, making plasma TVs a poor choice for video game playing, since most games have certain objects on the screen that do not move.
LCD TVs have no burn-in risk at all. They run at much cooler temperatures than plasmas do. They also are very lightweight and have brighter screen images than plasmas, making them a great choice for video gamers. However, they are not as good at tracking motion as plasmas. Though they do not have a burn-in risk, they do have the problem of pixel burnout, which affects a single pixel, leaving a black or white dot on the screen at all times. This problem cannot be fixed. They also tend to cost more than plasma televisions of the same size.
In the end, if you are going to be watching lots of movies and sports, plasma televisions are the way to go. On the other hand, if you play lots of video games, then LCDs are the best for your needs.
